Published Work

Here you'll find links, listed below, to access what works I've written, that have been published and are free to read.

Often the photography included in the short stories and articles are the work of my sister, Alicia Jaye Phillips, to many of us known as "Nee", who specializes in raw photography.  She was kind enough to allow me to augment her work as needed to accurately enhance the literary projects they were included in.

The book projects I'm working on aren't nearly finished, however, once my last editing project is complete, they'll get the majority of my attention, during my off hours.  Hopefully one of the three will be completed and ready to be submitted for publication by no later than Fall 2012.

Of all the things I've done for work, writing ranks easily at the top of the list, and I'm am constantly endeavor to improve my skills and content.

My thanks to family, friends and fans who have shared my work and have maintained their support during this long process of becoming a pro-writer.

I'm not there yet, but thanks to your encouragement, reads, comments, prayers and content assistance, I'm much closer to the goal of being a full-time writer than I was a year ago.  Your support has been invaluable.

Short Stories

Short story.  Non-fiction.  An evening walk in the Virginia countryside takes a menacing turn in the form of a very large black panther.

The inspiration behind the writing came from one of my favorite authors, Alastar Packer, who has written some fascinating material in the genres of American History and Paranormal sightings and experiences.  If you haven't read his work, I encourage you to check it out.  He's worth the effort and you won't be disappointed in his content.

41 at Midnight:

Short story.  Non-fiction.  A well-planned short trip on Highway 41 in Southern Indiana goes from delightful to dangerous when a breakdown occurs.

Sometimes the people and places we believe are reliable for help in a bad situation, are not the resource we think them to be.

The Dark Side of Reality:

Short story.  Non-fiction.  While on a trip to attend the funeral of a family member, a night spent in a hotel brings about a terrifying occurance of a supernatural event.

The trip home doesn't get any brighter when a new threat appears in a near bumper-to-bumper trek along the dark winding roads of the Appalachian mountains.

"I have a bad feeling about this ... " :

Short story.  Non-fiction.  A historical account of a real life couple, the physical and emotional challenges they faced, and how they found help in both recovering and holding on for brighter days with the help of some rescued four-legged friends.

The story also highlights the work of equine rescue endeavors and the wonderfully dedicated people who make it happen.

Short story.  Non-fiction.

Truthfully, one of the most wonderful stories I've ever had privilege to write, related to me by Glenda Rader, colleague and friend.

I cried while I wrote it.  I cried while I edited it.  I still cry when I re-read it, but the end brings a smile of triumph and thanksgiving to military veterans and their loved ones.  Semper Fi.

Articles and Reviews

Source: Seth Hall
An account of Seth Hall's journey into the film industry, volunteering to work with the lighting and electrical crew, and wherever else he was needed, at sixteen with no educational background in the business.  The interview was Seth's first, and my first in many years, and the experience was a learning event for both of us.

This piece continues to stand as my most-read article ever published.

An account of the amazing experience brought on by those in the fight against cancer, those who defeated it, and those who's lives were lost in the battle.

It was an emotional event, both personally and professionally.  I still stand amazed at the courage and tenacity of the people I met that night enduring such harsh conditions.
