Experiencing Goliad

Ma and I left Fort Worth this morning, and after travelling most of the day through near microscopic settlements with little to no cell phone services (most no cell phone services), we've FINALLY made it to the Executive Inn in Goliad.

I made reservations late last week.  I had a choice of two "hotels" to rent from.  I checked reviews on both places.  A review of one of them stated the room had a foul smell develop after being in the room for a while with no discernable source.  I scratched that one off the list.

Goliad County Courthouse, Goliad, Texas Town Square
The second one (and last one) said the place was a little gem for the price.  The price is just under $80 a night and I still haven't figured out where the gem bit plays into the place.  The desk-clerk's very sweet.  They have wifi, and the place is clean, so maybe it's not a gem but it serves the purpose and the place is clean.

Another plus is, it's close to everything I need to get pictures of.  The most important thing it's lacking is a coffee maker, but, there's a gas station with a decent coffee bar at the intersection across the street.  I think I might be able to live with the incovenience for one night.

Interior of Goliad's Pharmacy
I'm not much of a camper, but truthfully, due to Goliad's history, I'd have slept in a tent if needed to get photos of this place.  The town square is stunning and I took several photos there.  Most of the shops were closed for the evening, but I did find the pharmacy open and stopped in to get directions to a local memorial, and found the place to be the absolute coolest pharmacy I've ever been in.  No kidding, every town in America should have a pharmacy like the one here in Goliad.  It's magnificient!  Sorry the shots of the pharmacy's interior turned out to have a gold hue, but Seth Hall's loaned me his camera, and I've not mastered the options on it yet.  I had to call him earlier to re-school me on how to get the flash to work.  I'm blonde.  These things happen.  Thanks for the rescue, Seth.

A field four miles East of Goliad, TX
We'll head out early tomorrow and finish up some day-time shots, and then we're heading to find surf and sand.  I can't be this close to the coast and not go get some salty breeze blowing in my hair.  The problem will be leaving. I won't want to.

I love my friends in Dallas-Fort Worth, but truthfully, I've never been impressed with the landscape of the area.  This is my first time to travel-by-land to this part of Texas and the farther south we got, the better the scenery got.  It's not as beautiful as home, but it's still very pretty.

That's it for this post.  Busy day tomorrow with new things to discover.

So far, so good. You'd love doing a photo shoot here. It's beautiful and very sobering.
