Saddles, silver, hooves and hairdryers ...

Today's the day for my first visit to the Fort Worth Stock Show 2012!!Woot!! Woot!!

You're right!  I can't wait!  Beyond Christmas and my birthday, this is my favorite event of the year in Texas, and it's an annual tradition for me and a few friends to attend together.

And of course, after meandering through stalls, petting the animals, taking loads of pictures, buying at least one (or maybe two or three) silver momentos for my ears or my fingers, and spending as much time as I can manage fit in at the John Deere display station, then we'll be off to Riscky's in the Fort Worth Stockyards for dinner and hot coffee.

Riscky's - Fort Worth Stockyards

The forecast is calling for rain this afternoon, and I've already had a phone call this morning, asking if I'm still game for the trip, in consideration of my lightening-phobia.  But, so far, the skies are clear and it looks like the weather will hold long enough to me to get indoors.  So, yes, I'm going.  I'm wearing boots that are comfortable to walk in all day, and easy to run in.

I imagine that this year, I'll likely be mobbed by fans, fawning for my autograph, but I'm asking ahead of time, if you are one of those, to please wait patiently and not trample anyone.  I promise, I scribble fast, and will get to you quickly. (Grin!!)

The last stock show event I attended, the weather was frigid.  I wore my University of Kentucky Wildcats stadium jacket.  It's big and puffy, blue and white, and stands out in a crowd.  A couple of peeps called to me, saying, "Hey!  I bet you're from Kentucky!"

University of Kentuck Wildcats
Wow!  How'd they guess??

This year it's warmer, so no UK jacket.  A sweater, jeans, boots and my dad's denim jacket will suffice.  It also don't make that "swishy" sound the UK jacket makes.  The cattle and horses don't seem to be real fond of that noise, and I'm always worried I'll spook something really big that might be inclined to trample me.  The denim jacket works a whole lot better around large animals, and it's easier to launder away the "barn scent" that my city friends are inclined to refer to as "stinky."

City people ..... (sigh)

So then, if you're planning to be at the Stock Show today as well, and run across me, please stop and say hello!

Jared Southwick
Also, I've posted a review of a fantastic set of books on Hubpages today. It's regarding the Marysvale series, written by Jared Southwick, and this guy .... wow! What an excellent writer!! If you have a chance, please read the review and check out this guy's work. The books are inexpensive (one is even free for download on amazon), and WELL worth the investment, and you can get to the purchase site directly from the links on the review.

Nee,

Wow! Wish you coulda come along too! It was EXCELLENT! Sadly, there weren't any cattle on the grounds today, but I would imagine they'll be in by next week. I have to go again on Monday, to the rodeo.

And, we found a new place there that we'd not visited before. The Cowgirl Hall of Fame, and it's ... well, it's flipping fantastic!

They wouldn't allow any photos to be taken inside, but I HAVE to take you there when you visit next!

It's got awesome displays of U.S. cowgirls dating back to the 1800s, their tack and clothing as well.

Very impressive!

It's really unwise to talk to spambots [Anonymous] Angelia, it encourages more to show up!

On the bright side its HIGH TIME you got back to posting.

It's nice not to be disappointed every time I come looking for something new here.

Lethal,

Thanks for the heads up. I thought my spam filter had fouled up, so I allowed it back through.

I just sent you an email, lol. I hadn't come down far enough in my messages to see you'd been here, or I would have included here.

I'll try to do better at keeping more current postings. ;)

And, thank you for the suggestion on Jared Southwick's work. I read the book you suggested, then read the second one as soon as I finished the first.

Very good reads!

Knock Knock! Anyone home?

You suddenly in witness protection?

Your McGyver desk pull a Transformer eat your lap top and hold you hostage?

Been kidnapped and turned into some rich princes boy toy?

Seduced by the dark side (of chocolate)?

Inquiring minds wanna know!

Lethal,

I appreciate the check-up, but it's been none of the above.

I got sick last week, and still not quite up to par.

And, beyond that, we lost our dog Jack to pneumonia.

It's been a sad start off in the new year.

Look as DragonLaffs/Leprechaun Laughs resident Doctor of Quackery I can have you declared mentally incompetent & admit you to our Infirmary where we treat illnesses of body mind and spirit for a minimum 72 hour stay.

It's really a nice place with softly padded leather walls done in soothing colors, very smart looking canvas jackets with leather trim and buckles and all the latest in medical quackery, both theories and gadgets including the constant playing of soothing elevator Muzak.

OR you can join the rest of us in the struggle that is the human condition and accept our aid in working through your tough times but either way not posting, not commenting on DL/LL and withdrawing into yourself IS NOT an acceptable option.

DO NOT make me come all the way up there and provide you with Gunny Style Boondocker motivation!

Good afternoon Lethal,

I do appreciate you checkin' on me. And, I promise you, the absence hasn't been due to emotional difficulties.

It's been due to the flu bug I caught that totally knocked my on my tail.

I'm on the verge of feeling better, finally, but not quite yet up to snuff.

I have high hopes of being back to rights in a few days.

My advice is, steer clear of Tarrant County. This stuff is really awful, and even Leprechauns might catch it.

I'm going to confiscate your DragonLaffs Official Coffee Cups AS WELL AS your bloody coffee soon!

You get instant out of a paper cup if I do!

Lethal,

My apologies for my absence.

The threat worked. I'm not the sort who does well when things are out of place on my desk. Therefore, since I can't abide with my DragonLaffs mugs going missing, OR having to drink INSTANT coffee from a PAPER CUP ....

I'll have a new weblog posted by Monday.

Thank you for the push. ;)

Just a reminder from yur self appointed deadline editor!

Tick tick tick tock goes the clock on the wall! Dead line looms and I have repercussions for not posting readily at hand!

Lethal,

I fought through the migraine onslaught, and the following sluggish-sleepy side effects of the pain meds to produce a blog entry today.

Hopefully, this effort has me out of the dog house for a bit. :)
