After about a month's hiatus, I'm back at my desk and ready to return to the literary side of work.
I was fired up and ready to start reading, writing and catching up on much missed content, when I was pounced by a migraine in the middle of last night, leaving me off to a late start. But, late is better than not at all.
2012 took a turn that I wasn't expecting, in the loss of two of my best buddies in Texas. Jack, a border collie, and my constant shadow during my hours at home, and Checkmate, my sugar glider, that I've had since he was just weaned. Jack was 11-years-old. Checkmate would have been 10 this Spring.
For some of us, loosing a pet is no small thing to endure. And, that being said, I'd like to extend my sincere thanks to McGuyver (Jonathan Hall) and Jared and Luke Hall (of the Muscle Next Door) when it came time to bury my two friends. When Jack died, I'd come down with the flu, and if it weren't for the guys, I might still be trying to dig a burial spot in the back yard for him. I still wasn't quite recovered when Checkmate died two weeks later, and I'm thankful Lukas came to lend a hand in digging a grave for him as well.
Jade, my love bird, is doing fine and as happy as always, singing and playing all day long. He's a funny little fella, and it's been good medicine to watch him dance and have him chirping twittering during the hours I'm at home.
A few days before the flu hit, which was the worst upper respiratory infection I've had in five years, and lasted two weeks, I did manage to make my annual trek to the Fort Worth Stock Show. I wasn't disappointed with it this year, but my appreciation for some of it had changed. In particular, I discovered I disliked some of the rodeo competition. Most of the rodeo events, I will probably continue to be a fan of, but this year, when watching the calf-roping competition, it came across as cruel and completely turned me off.
A guy on a horse, chasing around a scared little calf until they throw a rope around it, run at it, tie it's legs together, and then throw it roughly on it's side .... yup, it was a turn off.
I can hear a red-neck voice with a defensive tone in my head saying, "Awww, it don't hurt 'em none!"
Physically, that'd be correct, if the challenge comes out with no accidents. But, terrorizing an animal just leaves a bad taste in my soul, whether physical injury occurs or not, and those participating in it just dropped out of my admiration zone.
The rest of the stock show was mostly as expected. The displays were great and the animals were awesome. But, for whatever reason, this year's attendance was lacking in activity. Much of the stock competition hadn't arrived yet, and the carnival was set up, but not in operation, nor were many of the outside vendors' booths.
Regardless, the place was packed, and I visited on a week day.
I'll post an article regarding the event on Hubpages as soon as I recover from the migraine hangover. I got to see some new stuff at the show this year, and met some interesting people.
My month's absence wasn't spent in an entirely vegetative state. I managed to get a good amount of work done on one of my books. I also read about ten from other authors. Two were old friends, by Frank Peretti, and three more were newer works of his that I'd not read yet. All of them are phenominal, and that's an understatement. A more recent work of his is out now, titled, Illusion, and I plan to read it within the next two weeks.
That's it for the update. Hope your new year is off to a good start, and that you're expecting good things to be coming your way.
My thanks to the Lethal Leprechaun for checking on me and the frequent prodding to get back to work.
God bless you, thank you for reading, and please don't forget to thank a Veteran today!

Good Morning Femme,
I am so sorry for your loss of Jack and your sweet sugar glyder. I know this must have been very hard. My heart goes out to you.
I am glad you are on the road to recovery fromt the flu. Migrains are the pits.:(
I have to agree with you about the rodeo's and I have been to many. I dont know why I did not see it before when I was younger..Maybe our eyes are open more as we age and compassion grows.
I hope you have a wonderful day. Thank you for a great entry. I was wondering if you would let me do your autobiography. I would need a bio, picture, favorite quote, story, links, and song from youtube and any books or articles. I then put it all together and put on my blog on wordpress. Here is the link so you can take a peek. I would be so honored. There is no timeline..just when you want to send it..Can attach through my email at hubs if you like..
Have a blessed day my friend. Take care,
Much love
Sunnie

Sunnie Girl,
Good morning back!
Thank you for your condolensces. They're much appreciated. Life is still not back to normal, but it goes on nonetheless.
Regarding the Fort Worth Stock Show, I was honestly surprised at my reaction. All my life I've been a rodeo fan, and yet this year, it was like seeing it for the first time, and I can't fathom how I didn't see it before the way I view it now.
I didn't see it as sportsman's prowess. I saw it as another form of bullying, with no competition.
I was relieved that I wasn't the only one who felt that way and the others walked out with me. But, if it'd only been me that was disturbed by watching it, I'd have walked out any way.
Sunnie, I gotta tell you, I laughed out loud when you asked about a biography, lol!!!
I haven't done anything to warrant one, and for the life of me, have no idea what I'd tell you about me that would be interesting enough to write about, much less for someone else to read about, lol. But, I'll chew on it a bit, and see if there's anything I can come up with to send you.
I do follow your wordpress blog. I have a wordpress blog as well, but discontinued using it when I realized I couldn't monetize it. Blogspot allows for monetization, so I've been here plugging away since then. I keep this blog here, as well as my cycle-pack's blog.
Alastar Packer, Mike Mulcahy and Irish (Annette Donaldson) are here as well, and we'd love to have you join us!

Welcome back and might I add, 'Tis about bloody time!
I was just after setting my Kleptomaniac Siamese Ninja Thief Cat upon your coffee and cups when I saw your new posy.
Fortunately for you there is to be tuna melts for lunch and I was able to call her off with the lure of tuna water. Otherwise she tends to be very determined and target fixated when on a mission. I fear your desk top would never have been quite the same after a visit by her. I know mine rarely is.
'Twas nae 3 days when I found my brand new Parker Sonnet Cisele Fountain Pen ($350 and part of a gift set) missing from the pen tray on my desk. Took me another 2 anxious days to locate the bloody thing where she had carted it off to! Fortunately there was no serious damage, either to the pen or her backside for being where she knows better or making off with it!
Lethal,
My thanks to you for not sicking the feline-thief onto my desk.
I'm relieved to know my much-less-expensive-solid-brass Retro-pen, with my initials thereon engraved, is safe from prying-paws, and won't be disappearing from my desk any time soon. I'd be crushed. I've had it since 2001, and have a several good friends who have pens that match mine nearly identically, w/ exception to color. Mine's in burnished copper. :)
Tuna melt sounds pretty good, by the way! But, since it's cool and sprinkling rain here, I think I'll have the soup. It's faster and microwave-friendly. :P

You've no idea what you missed by having soup instead of one of my tuna melts darlin. They are the true stuff of legend!
Lots of Albacore, minced seeded cucumber & celery, thinly sliced green onion tops, fresh dill, grated carrot and dill pickle relish with just enough Miracle Whip to hold it all together. This heavenly mix was spread generously between two pieces of Seeded Jewish Rye with a slice of Pepper-jack cheese ( choice of cheese is of course the eaters) placed on top.The entire carefully crafted labor of love was then slid into the panini grill for 4 minutes while making sure the lid did not push down too hard and push all that filling out.
Left to cool for a minute on the cutting board (the hardest but very necessary part)before being cut in half, served with cherry tomato/green olive skewers and a hand full of Rosemary & Olive Oil Mediterranean Kettle Chips (because presentation is everything!).
This was of course accompanied by Bailey's Creamer flavored coffee with a few Lemon flavored Girl Scout Cookies for dessert. Faith & Begorrah! I seem to have made myself hungry just relating this to you! Good thing there is enough tuna salad left for one more tuna melt lunch!
Lethal,
Your tuna melt sounds like a work of art.
When I manage to get rid of this migraine storm, I think I'll try to put your mix together myself. :)
In the meantime, I'm sticking with soup.
femme
If you think that sounds yummy you should try my egg salad!
One single post doesn't get you off the hook! Klepto-kitty is still itching to make you a visit!
Lethal,
You're right. I'm sure I would LOVE your egg salad! I'm an egg salad fiend and would have no problem eating it every day if I had to. (At least for a week or two.)
Thank you for the prodding, and I do actually have an article and a blog post coming up, probably by tomorrow or Tuesday.
But, I've decided sleep is a necessity before I wade in and end up with loads of rewrites and typos.
