A New Addiction ...

It started with me checking the clock and needing to get a book.  I had a choice.  I could either drive to downtown Fort Worth, find a place to park, run into Barnes & Noble, find the right 'rack', and then ... the whole plan would fall apart.  In general, most of you know, I hate shopping ... except for shoes and books.  There is no such thing for me as a fast trip in and out of a bookstore.  The hustle stops as soon as I clear the door and find myself surrounded by one of my favorite things in life ... books!  My head says, "Ahhhhh!!!"  (No kidding, that's what really happens in my little blonde brain when I get five feet inside the door.  Sometimes less than five.)

Point is, I love Barnes & Noble.  For that matter, I'd love a boot sale if they were selling books out of the boots.  Comments anyone?  I think that came out kinda cute. :) And, thank you Daddy-John and JJ for introducing me to boot sales in England.

Anyway, in needing some quick material for an article, I decided to opt out of the travel and exhiliration of book shopping time, and downloaded the Amazon free Kindle on my laptop.  It was fast.  It was convenient, and blonde-friendly.  Then, realizing I don't always have my laptop with me, but DO end up needing to reference the material in the books I've downloaded frequently, I decided to take it a step further.  I dwonloaded the Kindle books app for my smart  phone as well.  It seems I've developed a bit of an addiction for e-book mobile access.

You see, I read more than I write.  And, often, I have to manage to get the reading done while I'm multitasking, and not at my desk.  So, the phone app has been a very big help.  In my defense against the many who still prefer real books with real paper (and yes, I still qualify as one of those, at least for books, if not newspapers and magazines) my only reason for using it is necessity.  There's a lack of time for book shopping and a lack of room in my briefcase and backpack.  I don't have room to carry three and four books with me every time I head out the door.  My brief is already crammed with laptop and laptop gadgets, which leaves no room for books.

There are still some things I'm doing the old fashioned way.   I still buy books, the 'real' ones.  I still takes notes during interviews, on real paper, using a real pen.  I ditched the idea of electronic note taking when I showed up for an interview with Glenda Rader for the Memorial for Manny article, and realized I'd forgotten my mouse.  My laptop pad is disabled intentionally.  I kept erasing stuff with my wrists.  Stuff that didn't need erasing.  Thankfully, Glenda dug through her purse and found a pen and scrap paper.  I remember that every time I do an interview and say a silent thank you to Glenda.

It's ok.  I like doing some things the old fashioned way.  Very few things, but some methods of doing things should remain nostalgic.  And, my penmenship usually has room for practice and improvement.

Heartbeats for Hoofbeats - Part III should publish by late Monday, or early Tuesday.  Hope you'll be on the lookout for the announcement on facebook and twitter.  Also, an article is coming up on Tobias Robinson that I hope you'll take the time to read.  I have an interview schedule with him about daybreak on Tuesday morning.  See?  I really do have a tight schedule, lol.  But, it's worth it.  Tobias is such a cool guy and I feel privileged to get to be the one to introduce him to you if you haven't met him already.  That one should publish by Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday evening, I have a meeting for catch up and brainstorming with my buddy Don Proctor.  Don, Lord love him, he's always so congenial and accomodating.  When my schedule gets stormy (often for weeks on end), he could take the attitude that he's gotten lost in the laundry, but he doesn't.   He's always very understanding and remains supportive.  Therefore, what time I do get to hang with him is always much appreciated.  Don's on the verge of having his own works published.  He writes short stories, and has several completed.  When they come out, I bet I'm the first to let you know!  I've read some of his work already, and in my opinion, he's a good writer.  I'm sure it'll be worth your time to have a look at his work as well, and decide for yourself.  He held my attention with it, and that's an impressive feat to pull off.

There you go!  The scoop from femme's desk this evening.  Once more, my workout got sideswiped by lightening.  One cloud in the whole neighborhood with lightening, and it decides to settle over our patio.  Floor workout's done, but the cardio will have to wait. (Sigh)  I'll catch it up tomorrow. :)

Have a great evening!  Aspire to inspire and God bless!  Time to hit the shower for Round II at ATX Group.
